With email reaching over 90% of the email users within the U.S., it is a great way to interact with your customers and prospects. Just like any other piece of marketing, email can be extremely successful if used correctly. Here are 7 email marketing best practices for you to use in your email campaigns:
7 Email Best Practices
Create Specific Email Lists
No email list is the same. One email to everyone on your contact list will not work, because email addresses can belong to consumers in different areas of interest. You need a way to segment customers by interests so that you can send them more email soliciting their participation in events or online actions that are relevant to them.
Pick a Time Best for Your Audience
If email marketing is done correctly, it can be an email that arrives before a prospect has even remembered that they need your service or product. Yes, email should be scheduled to arrive in the future. Your email list needs to reflect what you know about its recipients so that you will get results right when they are looking for you.
Make Emails Creative
Spend some time thinking about how email is used in your market to help you create email that stands out from the rest of the email crowd and makes people want to open it. Make sure your email has a call-to-action that encourages customers to respond, such as a special promotion or a free download.
Engage with Email Subscribers
There are two reasons for this: to get more information about the people on your email list, so that you can send email in a timely manner; and to build a rapport between you and those who subscribe to your email by showing them that you value their opinion and that email is only going out to people who want it.
Integrated Email Marketing in Overall Marketing Efforts
Make email accessible on all your marketing material, including your website, business cards, brochures, etc. Be sure to include a way for email subscribers to opt-out of email communication regularly in any email you send. Be clear about your email privacy policy.
Develop Content to Inform and Entertain
Show email subscribers you care by sending email that is informative, useful or entertaining to them – not just email that tells them about your company. Doing email marketing right will bring customers back to you when they are ready to buy a product or service from you again and again! You can also use email lists to email subscribers about new products that you are introducing, and email can be a great way to get customers who have opted out of email back on your mailing list again.
Include An Unsubscribe Option
Be sure to include an ‘unsubscribe’ option within all email you send. This email marketing best practice is the law in many states, so check your email state laws to make sure you are abiding by them. Make email easy for email subscribers to get off your email list if they want to opt-out – but also make it clear how they can request back on onto your email list again later on.
These tips will help you develop email campaigns that make an impact. It can be a lot to handle, and we’re happy to discuss how we can take over your email marketing strategy.
